Michaela Leonard
Hi there! My name is Michaela and I am currently a counseling intern working on my final year of a master’s degree in clinical mental health counseling. I have six years of experience in the field, primarily working in community mental health as support staff and a case manager. I strongly believe that each individual has the right to have access to a safe and brave space. I aim to both create and share that space with my clients. While the majority of my experience comes from working with adults dealing with a variety of mental health diagnoses, I am passionate about working with adolescents and young adults. Working with the LGBTQIA+ population is not only an area I am familiar with, but also a focus of mine. As a counselor I offer a person-centered and strengths-based approach. In our shared space, my goal is to try to maintain cultural humility and curiosity. I believe each individual is the expert of themselves and their own life experiences. My role as a counselor is to provide an empathetic and compassionate space for you to process your experiences, while also providing the necessary support to assist you out of your “stuck” places. Taking the first step may be difficult, however I will show up for you in a way that allows you to feel safe not only taking that first step, but also with taking a few more.
