Our very own Janelle Shannon LICSW at Brightside Behavioral Health was diagnosed January 4th, 2019 with Stage 3 Pancreatic cancer. With the survival rate of only 9% last year and 10% in 2020, Janelle was lucky to survive. Janelle wants to spread the word about the signs and symptoms of pancreatic cancer and has begun counseling those who are going through all types of cancer and those who care for their loved ones.

Facts about Pancreatic Cancer:

  • It is said that 1,257 people worldwide will be diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, and an estimated 1,184 will die from the disease every day.
  • Pancreatic Cancer has the LOWEST SURVIVAL RATE of all Major cancers.
  • 2020 projected survival rate is now only 10%.

It’s important to know that we are not fully aware of all the risk factors but research is showing:

  • Being overweight
  • Having a family history
  • Chronic Pancreatitis
  • Smoking

Knowing the symptoms can save lives, listen to your body. Don’t ignore the warning signs!

  • Yellow Skin or Eyes
  • Loss of Appetite
  • Mid-Back Pain
  • Abdominal Pain
  • Unexplained Weight Loss
  • New-onset Diabetes
  • Change in Stool
  • Indigestion
