Casey Movsovitz
Casey Movsovitz is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in Rhode Island, currently practicing under supervision. She earned her master’s degree in social work from Rhode Island College and her bachelor’s degree in social work from Providence College. Casey has extensive experience working with clients across various stages of life, from adolescence to older adulthood.
Her clinical journey began with a focus on children experiencing significant trauma and behavioral challenges, including those in foster care and those aging out of the system. She has also co-facilitated groups centered on parenting and substance use relapse prevention. Recently, Casey has concentrated on working with adolescents aged 16 and older, as well as adults ranging from 20 to over 70 years old.
Casey employs a range of evidence-based approaches in her practice, including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and problem-solving techniques. She specializes in working with clients who have extensive trauma histories, such as childhood abuse and neglect, sexual assault, domestic violence, medical trauma, and substance abuse. Her expertise also includes addressing significant interpersonal conflicts, anxiety disorders (including generalized anxiety disorder, social phobia, and panic disorder), depressive disorders, various forms of grief and loss, and major life transitions such as relocation, starting college, beginning a new job, and parenthood.
Additionally, Casey has a special interest in supporting clients with physical, medical, or psychiatric disabilities, chronic illness, and chronic pain. She is also adept at working with clients exploring body image issues, body dysmorphic thoughts, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) related to body image and eating, and disordered eating.
Adopting a person-in-environment perspective and a strengths-based approach, Casey aims to help clients gain a deeper understanding of themselves and the factors that shape their lives. She is dedicated to empowering clients to reflect on their values and take actions aligned with those values to effect meaningful changes in their lives. Believing that clients are the foremost experts on their own experiences, Casey integrates this belief into her practice to guide and support her clients effectively.
