Brian Leidal
Have substances or other behaviors (such as digital media, food, gambling, or sex) gotten the best of you? Do you feel stuck in your life due to feelings of overwhelm or being on-edge? If you need help enacting change in your life, relationships, or behaviors then I'm here to help! It is both difficult and scary to make changes, especially if we don't have the right tools and the right support. I will help you develop tools you can use to remain in the present moment while working through issues from the past. We will look at blocks and barriers to making the changes you wish to make. While I specialize in working with addiction and trauma-related issues, I am experienced in working with a diverse array of treatment concerns.
In 2014, I graduated with a Master's Degree in Community Counseling with a specialization in Addiction Counseling. I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) in Rhode Island, a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in Colorado, and a Clinical Mental Health Counselor (CMHC) in Utah and have worked extensively as a therapist in residential treatment settings, including five years in wilderness therapy.
I became a therapist because I like helping people and I was struck with the power that our mindsets have over our perception of the world we live in. I enjoy helping people achieve their goals while feeling more grounded in their daily lives and in their relationships. I believe that we all have the capacity to change, it just takes the right tools and support to do so. Our brains are wired for connection, craving, and the avoidance of pain; understanding how our brain functions is essential to enacting the changes we wish to embody. I bring a healthy dose of humor to our sessions as well as a balance of kindness and firmness, depending on what you need.
