Benefits of Virtual Reality Therapy Offered in Johnston RI!

VR Session

Brightside Behavioral Health is now offering the benefits of virtual reality therapy in both Johnston RI and Warwick RI locations.

What is Virtual Reality Therapy?

VR is a non-invasive and safe technique based on the projection of interactive 3 graphics through a pair of goggles and headphones. A client is transported into an immersive non-physical environment different from the physical environment they are in at that moment. It is a virtual environment designed by healthcare professionals.

This new technology gives the therapist the ability to control the therapeutic process, that is, it allows the Brightside therapist to personalize the phycological interventions in accordance with the client’s needs. It facilitates self-healing, as the client does not have to wait for an event to take place in real life but can be produced and reproduced as needed.

In psychology, virtual reality therapies can achieve something “extra” that traditional therapies do not have. The main benefit is that clients notice their improvement much faster, and that is something everyone is looking for.

Through the technology platform, the therapist can see what the client is experiencing at all times. For example, in the “Fear of Public Speaking” environment, the therapist will know if the client is looking at the public when they are speaking or not.
The Brightside therapist will monitor the client’s bio signs through a biofeedback mechanism giving the therapist insight as to what is physically happening in the client’s body. For example, an increased heart rate, pulse, and blood pressure increase.

Brightside Behavioral Health offers a multitude of virtual reality environments for treating many conditions. Below is are just some of the VR therapy environments.
