NBC 10 I-Team: Firefighter says honest talk about mental health will save first responders

It’s a tragic trend: first responders taking their owns lives.

As the NBC 10 I-Team reported Wednesday, at least six Rhode Island firefighters have died from suicide this year. And experts say the stigma surrounding mental health is a big part of the problem.

The I-Team talked with first responders and their families to find out what needs to change.

  • I really appreciate what you guys are doing. So many of us have experienced trauma and we deal with it by burying our emotions until we explode!
